Tortoise Shell is the carapace and plastron of Chinemys reevesii (Gray) (Fam. Emydidae).

Action: To nourish yin and subdue the overflowing of yang, to replenish the kidney and strengthen the bones, and to enrich blood and benefit the mentality.

Indications: Consumptive feverand night sweating due to deficiency of yin: vertigo, tremors, weakness of legs; forgetfulness.

Usage: To be decocted before other ingredients.
