Pokeberry Root is the dried root of Phytolacca acinosa
Roxb. or Phytolacca americana L. (Fam. Phytolaccaceae).
Action:
To cause drastic
purgation and also diuresis, to counteract toxicity, and to
reduce nodulation.
Indications:
Anasarca with oliguria and constipation; external use for
carbuncles and sores.
Usage: For
external use appropriate quantity of the fresh root to be
pounded into paste or the dried root to be ground into powder,
and applied topically.
