Pharbitis
Seed is the dried ripe seed of Pharbitis nil (L.) Choisy
or Pharbitis purpurea (L.)Voigt (Fam. Convolvulaceae).
Action:
To cause drastic
purgation for clearing away retained fluid, and to kill worms.
Indications:
Anasarca with constipation and oliguria; dyspnea and cough
caused by retained fluid;
abdominal pain due to intestinal parasitosis; ascariasis,
taeniasis.
Precaution:
Contraindicated in pregnancy. Incompatible with
Fructus Crotonis.
