Clam Shell is the Shell of Meretrix meretrix Linnaeus or Cyclina
sinensis Gmelin (Fma. Veneridae).
Action:
To remove heat and resolve phlegm, to soften
hard masses and eliminate nodulations, and to alleviate epigastric
pain by inhibiting acid secretion.
Indications:
Cough, chest pain and bloody sputum caused by heat
in the lung,; scrofula, goitre; epigastric pain associated
with acid regurgitation; external use for eczema and scalds.
Usage: To
be decocted before other ingredients, and wrapped for making
decoction if powdered concha is used; for external use, appropriate
quantity to be ground into extremely fine powder and sprayed
on the lesions or applied topically after mixing with oil
