Calomel is a mercurous chloride.

Action: External use: to kill parasites, to counteract toxicity, and to promote the healing of ulcers. Internal use: to remove phlegm and cause drastic purgation.

Indications: For external use: scabies, ringworm, ulcus cruris, syphilis, ulcers, eczema.

For oral aministration: edema and abdominal distension with oliguria and constipation.

Usage: For extenal use, appropriate quantity to be ground into powder and apply topically.

For oral use, times a day, mostly to be made into pills or capsules. Gargle after taking the drug.

Precaution: Because of its toxicity, overdosage should be avoided, caution should be used when it is taken orally, and it is contraindicated in pregnancy.
