Hawthorn Fruit is the dried dripe fruit of Crataegus pinnatifida Bge. var major N. E. Br. or Crataegus pinnatifida Bge. (Fam. Rosaceae).

Action: To stimulate digestion and promote the functional activity of the stomach, to improve the normal flow of qi and dissipate blood stasis.

Indications: Stagnation of undigested meat with epigastric distension, diarrhea and abdominal pain; amenorrhea due to blood stasis, eplgastric pain or abdominal colic, after childbirth; heraial pain; hyperlipemia. Fructus Crataegi (charred): Has more digestant action and is particularly useful for stagnation of undigested meat and diarrhea with inadequate discharge from the bowels.
