Sources:The
leaves, stems, roots and fruits of Xanthium sibiricum Patrin.
Family Compositae.
Constituents:
Containing xanthostrumarin, b-sitosterol, xanthinol and glycosides,
etc.
Actions: Life
span of the mice bearing EAC was prolonged. Hot water extract
of the herb have strong inhibitory action against ascitic
S180, the inhibitory rate was 50.25.Freeze drying products
of hot water infusion of the herb have 50~70 inhibiting tumor
cell growth rate against JTC-26 in vitro.
Indications:It
was used for treatment of nasopharyngeal carcinoma, thyroid
adenocarcinoma, osteosarcoma, cancer of nasal cavity and accessory
nasal sinuses, etc.
(1) Experimental formula for nasopharyngeal
cancinoma and cancer of nasal cavity:
Fructus Xanthii 15g
Radix Sophorae TonRinensis 12g
Herba Selaginellae Doederleinii 30g
Herba Scutellariae Barbatae 30g
Spica Prunellae 12g
Radix Semaiquilegiae 30g
Thallus Echloniae 15g
Thallus Laminariae 15g
Blood stasis, adding to:Flos Carthami,
Semen Persicae, Rhzoma Sparganii, Rhizoma Curcumae
Deficiency of both qi and blood, adding
to:Radix Astragali, Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Codonopsis,
Rhizoma Atractylodis Macoce- phalae, Caulis Spatholobi.
Decoction of the herbs was taken once
daily, divided into 2 times, for 13 to 30 months to treat
38 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma and nasal cavity cancer
(32 cases of them accepted radiotherapy or other therapy).
The clinical result showed that cuer, remarkable effect, improvement
and inefficacy were in 1, 6, 19 and 9 cases respectively.

The formula treated 50 cases of nasopharyngeal
carcinoma patients whom accepted radiotherapy, the clinical
result showed that cure was in 12 cases, the survival rate
of more than 5 years was 24%. specific effect, remarkable
effect, effectiveness and inefficacy were in 12, 16, 4 and
6 cases resp- ectively.
