Sources:The
whole plant of Verbena officinalis L. Family Verbenaceae

Constituents:
Containing Verbenalin, Verbenin, hastatoside, tannin, volaiile
oil and cardial glycoside.
Actions: The decoction
of the herb has inhibitory effect to U14 and S180 murine tumors.
The water extract of the herb has inhibitory effect to cultured
JTC-26 cell line (human cervical cancer cell) in vitro. The
inhibitory rate were 50%~70%,that is similar to 66% of BLM
inbihiting rate . In addition , the extract also has inhibitory
effects to U14 and S180 murine tumor cell lines.
Indications:It
could for treatment of esophageal cancer and leukemia.
(1)The mistura of composite prescription
for esophageal cancer and otther advanced cancers (whole body
metastases). 100 of the mistura containing Herba Verbenae
50g, Rhizoma Sparganii 50g, Rhizoma Cibotii 100g
The mistura was taken to 31 cases of
advanced cancers 100 to 150ml (for other cancer) 2 times a
day for 14 to 106 days (Mean 49 days). The clinical resuls
showed that remarkable efficacy, efficacy and inefficacy were
5, 19 and 7 cases respectively and total effective rate was
77.42%.
(2)Composite prescription of Verbena
officinalis L. Mistura for leukemia:
Herba Verbenae 30g
Herba Agrimoniae 30 to 60g
Rhizoma Bletillae 9 to 12g
Fructus Jujubae 7 to 10 grain
The decoction (mistura) of above herbs
was taken to one case of leukemia for 4 months. The patient
was thrombopenia that is due to administered myleran for long
time. The platelet count recovered to 10-6/mm3 from 3.4*10-5/mm3,
therefor the herbs maybe contained a component that is able
to detoxify myleran.
