Sources:The
roots and rhizoma of Rubia cordifolia. L. Family Rubiaceae.
Constituents:
Containing rubierythrinic acid, purpurin, alizarin, pseudopurpurin
and munjistin, etc.
Actions: In the
herb, 7 anti-cancer compositions were discovered, the general
name called RA . The anti-cancer action of RA -7 was most
powerful. The test on animal showed that RA-7 inhiboted tumor
growth against leukemia, ascitic carcinoma, large intestinal
and lung murine tumors, and prevented diffusion of carcinoma.
Two types of cyclic hexapep- tides were separated from the
herb and their acetylating compound has remarkable inhibitory
action against lymphatic leukemia P388, L1210, melanoma B16,
Clon38, Lewis lung carcinoma, ESC solid tumor, The methanol
extract of the extract of the herb has 80% inhibitory rate
against ascitic S180 murine tumor. In vitro test showed that
water extract of the herb has 100% inhibitory rate against
of the herb has 100% inhibitory rate against human cervical
carcinoma JTC-26 cell line. But it ougth to pay attention
to that oral adminisration of the extracts is ineffect and
more toxic on normal cells.

The decoction of the herbs was taken,
divided into 2 times for oral adminisration deaily for 10
days as a course of treatment to treat 34 cases of cervical
carcinoma, including stage II 7 cases, stage III 16, stage
IV 11. The clinical results showed that the cases of CR, PR,
improvement were 24, 5, 3 respectively, the total effective
rate was 94.1%.

The decoction the herbs was taken for
oral adminstration daily to treat 31 cases of cervical carcinoma.
The clinical result showed that cases of CR, PR, MR and NC
were 14, 8, 5 and 4 respectively. The total effective rate
was 87.1%.
