seeds or whole of Peganum harmala L. Family Euphorbiaceae.
Constituents:Containing
harmaline, harmine, harmalol, vasicine and isoharmine,etc.
Actions:In vitro,
the total alkaloids at 47 and 94ug/ml concentration, the inhibiting
rate against hela cells were 62.9% and 75.3%, harmine was
59% and 71.7%,isoharmine at 47ug/ml concentration, the inhibiting
rate was 59%, harmine at 47 and 94ug/ml concentration,the
inhibiting rates against CNE2 cell line were 70.3% and 89.5%.
In vivo, harmaline at 22.5 and
45mg/kg¡Á10d ip, the inhibiting rates against
S180 were 32.2%~47.7%, against L-2 were 32.2%~58.2%,against
HepS were 29.4%~58.3%.
Indications:
It could be used for treatment of digestive tract cancers.
The powder of seeds 2~4/once, 2~3times/daily, adminisered
orally, 8 cases of gastric cancer were treated, the results
showed that through 2~9 months follow up,3 cases were survived
well, 6 cases improved, anorexia or symptoms were lightened.
The total alkaloids tablets (10mg/tab)
were administered orally, 4~7tabs/o- nce, t.i.d or alkaloids
injection preparation (5mg/ml)10~30mg/once im. or by adding
glucose N.S.solution iv-drip, 21 cases of digestive tract
cancers were observed, among them,12 cases were treadted with
tablets only, 5 cases with tablets and iv. injection, 4 cases
with iv-drip and im. administration, all of them treated for
30 days, the results showed that CR 19%,PR 66.7%, the total
effective rate was 85.7%, among them, 2 cases survived for
more than 5 years.
The composite prescription (Herba Pegani
Harmalaae, Radix Astragali, Rhizoma Atractylodis Macrocephalae,
Radix Codonopsis, Radix Bupleuri, Herba Artemisiae Scopariae)
was used for treatment of 12 cases of advanced liver cancer,
in which l case was survived for more than 5 years, and its
antimetastatic action was observed. In part of patients, the
digestive tract adverse reactions and coma side effect were
observed.
