Sources:The
roots, leaves and whole plant of Gelsemium elegans (Gardn.
et Champ.) Benth. Family Loganiaceae.
Constituents:Containing
gelsemine, gelsemicine, etc.
Actions:In vito,
gelsemine at dose of 40ug/ml has killing effect against AGZY-83-a
human lung adenocarcinoma and SC-823 human gastric aden- ocarcinoma
cell lines and it was effective against EAC mouse tumor, in
addition it also increased the immune function of animals.
Indications:It
could be used for treatment of liver, gastric, cervical, breast
and thyroid cancers.
(1) The total alkaloids of the herb made
of amps, with iv-drip, the start dose was 2~4mg/a day, the
maxim dose was 18mg/a day. 16 cases of digestive tract cancers
were treated, certain effect was obtained. 38 cases of primary
liver cancer were treated, the total effective rate was 60%.
(2) The dry powder of the herb was used
at dose of 50mg/once, t.i.d, after 3 days, if no adverse reactions
were found, then increased to 100~150 mg/ once. It has been
adminitered for long period of time, 8 cases of liver canc-
er survived more than 2 years, after treatment for 1~2 months,
the disease was generally improved well, the pain was lightened
or disappeared, the appetite and body weight increased, in
6 cases, the liver size reduced to more than 50%, 2 cases
was less than 50%, in 4 cases, the AFP from positive turned
to negative, after treatment the life span of the patients
were 30~87 months, the median value
