Herb or whole plant of Epimedium sagittatum (Sieb. et Zucc.)
Maxim. Family Berberidaceae.
Constituents:
Cotaining icariin, des-o-methylicariin.
Actions: Studies
in vitro showed that the water extract of Herba Epimedi- um.
Sagittatum at a dose of 0.5 /ml had a cell killing action
against HL-60 cell line.
Indications:Composite
prescription (Bu Shen San Jie Tang )for breast tumor (containing
hyperplasia of mammary gland, and mammary cancer):
Herbs Epimedii 30g
Semen Cuscutae 30g
Fructus Psoraleae 30g
Cornu Cerui 30g
Semen Vaccariae 30g
Fructus Crataegi 30g
Sargassum 30g
Radix Morindae Officinalis 12g
Rhizoma Cyperi Preparata 12g
Squama Manitis Prepata 8g
The above herbs could be incerased or
decreased according to the symptoms and were taken with decoction,
three times a day. During the fifth day befere menstrual onset,
the patient began to tate the prepartion, for 3 therapeutic
periods but at the prior four days of each menstruation migth
be withdrawal. The preparation was administered to 56 cases
of breast lumps (containing hyerplasia of mammary gland, or
mammary cancer), 38 cases
of which were complete remission, 13 cases improved and 5
cases were inefficacy.
