The rhizoma of
Curcuma longa L. Family Zingiberacae.
Constituents:
Conaining curcumin, volatile oils, tumerone, zingiberene,
etc.
Actions:Studies
in vitro showed that the tumeric extract at a concentration
of 0.4mg/ml and curcumin 4ug/ml had cytotoxic effect to Dalton's
lymphom- a.Studies in vivo indicated that mice were given
1000000 dalton's lympho- ma cells intraperitoneally, tumeric
extract 40mg/mouse and curcumin lipos- omes 5mg/mouse were
given to the mice through the same route continu- ed for 10
days. The results showed that both turmeric extract and curcumin
had a significant reduction of the death rate and tumor formation
in mice, the tumor formation rates were 12% and 40%, survived
rates after 60 days were 50% and 60% in tumeric extract group
and curcumin group respect iv- ely, but the tumor formation
rate was 100% and the survival rate after 60 days was 0% in
the control group. An other experiment proved that topical
application of 1, 3 or TPA twice weekly for 20 weeks to mice
previously tre- at with DMBA, could inhibit the TPA induced
tumors per mouse. The inhibi- ting rates were 39%, 77% and
98% respectively.
