Sources:The
rhizome of Anemarrhena asphodeloides Bge. Family Liliaceae.
Constituents:
Containing timosaponin A1, A2,A3, A4, B1, B2, mangiferin,
4 kinds of oligosaccharide, flavonoids, etc.
Actions:Water
extract of the herb has inhibitory effect against JTC-26 cell
line, the inhibitory rate was over 90%. Decoction of the herb
has inhibitory effect against Hela and hepatocarcinoma cell
lines. Timosaponin has act- ion against human hepatocarcinoma
that transplant in nude rats by drinking 0.04% timosaponin
water solution for 45 days.The result of the test showed that
the treated nude rats bearing tumor were able to prolong life
span and the tumor size was decreased .The result has statistical
significance and indicated
that the herb has assistant action for hepatosarcoma treatment.
Indications:It
could be used for treatment of lung, skin, cervical and nasopharyngeal
carcinoma, etc.
(1)Two patients that suffered from hepatocarcinoma
and had fever took Zhi Bai Di Huang Wan containing the herb
with one pill twice daily for 5 to 14 days, body temperature
of the patients recovered normal.
(2)Experimental formula for nasopharyngeal
carcinoma:

Decoction of the herbs was taken, divided
into 2 times daily to treat 50 cases of nasopharyngeal carcinoma
after radiotherapy. The clinical result showed that survival
rates of 3 and 5 years were 70% and 60%.

The formula was used to treat 24 cases
of cervical carcinoma. The result showed that effectiveness,
improvement and inefficacy were in 9, 3 and 12 cases and the
patients survived for 1 year, 1~2 years and 2~3 years were
3, 3 and 3 cases respectively.
